ART AND PASS is a collaborative artistic project organized by Thomas Barrera, Tom Bertrand and Art Deal Project which is formed by 15 artists from different nationalities, blending emerging artists with established ones, as well as diverse techniques and materials. An exercise is presented to the artists which will make them explore and question the concepts of inspiration, appropriation and original creation. Inspired by the creative process of Mail Art, ART AND PASS causes an artistic flow which travels geographically and conceptually. The creative process and the production work of each artist is captured on video, with the objective of sharing the process with the public and deepen, in the artist’s view, about the piece which is presented to him with the goal of being reinterpreted.
The first piece is created by the French artist collective 9ème concept. This work is duplicated and sent by mail to two different artists. Each one must seize and reinterpret the piece which they have received to create a new link in the chain. This process is repeated during four generations (15 artists in total), generating a structure similar to a “family tree”, where all pieces share a same source.
